Air France-KLM Group is contemplating a new name as it expands to include Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and potentially TAP Air Portugal.
“When the project to raise the stake in SAS to 60.5% was announced in July 2025, the question of the group name was already asked and answered,” the company said in a statement Monday. “It is only logical to have that discussion, considering that we intend to add new brands to the group. The current name only reflects our two historic brands.”
Air France-KLM took a 19.9% stake in SAS as part of the financial restructuring package that ushered the Sweden-headquartered airline out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in summer 2024. The company hopes to close on a controlling 60.5% share of SAS during the second half of this year.
The group has also made an offer for 44.9% of TAP, which the Portuguese government intends to privatize. It is competing against Lufthansa Group for the TAP stake.
The Netherlands-based news outlet De Telegraaf reported that Air France-KLM would change names on Monday. But Air France-KLM said no name has been chosen yet.
“At this point, no decision has been made,” the company said.
